Call for submissions for blockchain innovations
The call for submissions for Fundamental knowledge for responsible blockchain innovations has been launched. Multidisciplinary consortia can request funding for coherent research into socially responsible blockchain innovations as described in the Dutch Blockchain Research Agenda.
Dutch Blockchain Vision Statement
The overarching vision of the Dutch Blockchain Research Agenda is as follows: ‘Blockchain research should focus on identifying and building the conditions for the development of blockchain technology. The goal is to maximize the contribution to society and rule out or mitigate undesirable developments.’
Aim
The aim of this programme is to make the Dutch Blockchain Research Agenda concrete through the development of a coherent, fundamental research programme. The research must pay explicit attention to the potential social impact of blockchain innovations. The ethical and social aspects of technological innovations should embrace the NWO Responsible Innovation goals. NWO has developed the Responsible Innovation approach to encourage innovations that foster broad social support. Social aspects such as ethical, legal, sociological, economic, psychological and behavioural consequences are included in the design process from day one. Researchers from various disciplines will ensure that multidisciplinary aspects are addressed.
Budget
The total budget per proposal is 1.5 million euros. An amount of 650,000 euros will be available up until July 2022 and the remainder will be released five years after the grant is awarded. The total NWO grant will be no less than 50% and no more than 80% of total programme costs.
Matchmaking
In order to support the formation of consortia, the submission of an Expression of Interest is a compulsory part of the proposal. To inspire other applicants, all submissions will be shared with the other applicants and will form the basis for a matchmaking meeting (provisional date: 8 March 2019).
