The NWO platform for Responsible Innovation provides space for sharing knowledge and for making the research results of NWO-MVI projects accessible and applicable. The platform focuses on strengthening the NWO-MVI network of scientists, businesses, public authorities and civil society. Developing knowledge through research programming and funding is the main purpose of the platform.
The NWO-MVI research programme was set up in 2008. In 2018, more than sixty projects focusing on research into the ethical and societal aspects of technological innovations were launched. This involves both short-term and long-term research projects. From 2012 onwards, all projects are carried out as public-private partnerships in the different fields of the top sectors.
Responsible Innovation is gaining further traction in new initiatives and programmes. Thanks to the acquired experience and expertise and the networks that have been developed, NWO-MVI can inspire new research initiatives in the field of responsible innovation and contribute to the further development of this field.
Sharing knowledge and strengthening the network
The platform revolves around the scientific research funded by NWO-MVI and provides space for sharing knowledge and for making the research results accessible and applicable. In addition, the platform is aimed at strengthening the NWO-MVI network of scientists, businesses, public authorities and civil society organisations. All these groups can act as a partner in NWO-MVI research and use the platform for information, inspiration and establishing contacts.
Alignment with NWOs mission
The platform is in line with NWOs mission, which centres on promoting quality and innovation in science. NWOs premise is that scientific research contributes to prosperity and wellbeing and meets a growing need for knowledge that will help us address societal challenges, boost economic development, and better understand ourselves and the world around us.
In keeping with NWOs mission, the platform aims to promote cooperation within the academic world and between researchers and stakeholders in society, by
- connecting different parties;
- encouraging collaborative and coordinated research;
- promoting strategy development;
- adding value to other organisations and initiatives from its own unique perspective;
- continuing to develop the knowledge and experience gained through the NWO-MVI platform.
