Prof. Jenny Dankelman
Jenny Dankelman obtained her degree in Mathematics, with a specialisation in System and Control Engineering at the University of Groningen in 1984. Since then she worked at the Department of BioMechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering (3mE) of the Delft University of Technology. Her work focuses on minimally invasive surgery, flexible endoscopy, needle interventions, endovascular interventions and is performed in cooperation with several (university) hospitals. Her research projects are in the fields of designing novel medical instruments, medical haptics, training and simulation systems, and patient safety. Recently she started a number of projects to develop affordable and high quality (minimally invasive) surgical instruments for low and middle income countries. In 2007 she became head of the Minimally Invasive Surgery and Interventional Techniques (MISIT) group. Between 2010 and 2014 she was head of the BMecheE department and became Medical Delta professor in 2013. In 2018 she became Knight in the order of the Netherland Lion.
