Drs. Jilde Garst
Jilde Garst is a PhD student at Wageningen University in the Netherlands. After her Bachelor in public health sciences and Master in Health Food Innovation Management at Maastricht University, Jilde worked as a project manager, first, for an NGO in nutritional science and later for the International Diabetes Federation. Having contributed to the translation of scientific insights into innovative solutions, she decided to further explore the barriers for overcoming public health issues with innovation. In 2015 she started her PhD project on the drivers and barriers for Responsible Innovation in the food industry. In the first part of this project, she conducted on multiple case-study in which she interviewed several managers of food manufacturing firms on the drivers and barriers for developing healthier food products. Her first paper regarding the motives for Responsible Innovation was published in 2017 in the scientific journal Sustainability. Currently, she is working on the second part of her PhD in which she conducted a survey among managers in food companies on the capacity of their organization to incorporate a social value, such as public health, into their product innovation processes.
